AV CASE STUDY

MULTI-PURPOSE AREA SOLUTION

SUMMARY

A local continuing care facility in Lititz, PA partnered with B&B Integrations to design a custom AV solution for their multipurpose event space. Used for hybrid conference meetings with remote participants over Zoom, chapel services, concerts, movie showings, and other community events.

THE GOAL

  1. To create a solution utilizing a wall- mounted touch screen controller that is universally accessible and simple to operate for a diverse group of users with little experience with AV technology (staff members, chaplains, and facility resident volunteers).
  2. To create a series of custom layout pages for the touch screen controller, each designed with a specific type of recurring event in mind. This gives users control of exactly the equipment and settings they require for the designated event, reducing on-screen control features not relevant to their particular use of the space. This is to keep each user’s experience tailored to their event’s specific tech needs and eliminate unnecessary or overwhelming AV choices.
  3. To create a dedicated workflow for starting and operating Zoom virtual meetings with all in-room equipment.
  4. To utilize wireless solutions for content sharing and microphone pickup to reduce setup time for events and eliminate the visual footprint of AV technology cables.
  5. To improve the camera image quality transmitted to virtual conference guests and closed-circuit TV system viewers, to create a more immersive experience for remote event participants.
  6. To utilize as much of the existing AV equipment as possible and focus on making strategic system changes that enhance the capability of the current hardware, to match evolving goals for the room and anticipate additional future updates.

THE CUSTOMIZED SOLUTION

B&B created a custom user interface designed to control audio and video system settings to help residents and team members easily use all key features of the AV system needed to succeed. B&B collaborated with key team leaders and residents of the facility to discuss how to utilize the multi- purpose space and design a custom control system layout tailored to their needs.

The initial window of the control panel allows the user to select the style of event they are hosting (sanctuary service, Zoom virtual conference call, live performance, etc.) and be directed to another custom page for event specific audio or video controls. This allows the end user group to control exactly the microphones and in-room equipment they need for that style of event, and nothing else.

The custom touch panel layout offers control of volume levels and mute/unmute settings for relevant microphones and audio channels, projector on/ off settings , switching between video sources to display in-room (including wireless content sharing, HDMI wall plate, zoom conferencing, or DVD playback), and switching between relevant camera presets or manual camera adjustments.

In addition to this, a second touch panel was installed dedicated simply for Zoom Room operation, with a familiar interface for the facilities’ existing Zoom app users, and a one-touch feature for initiating a pre-scheduled meeting.

B&B’s custom AV solution also included: Installation of wireless microphones with recharging/docking station for simple event setup and teardown and a reduced visual footprint for AV cables.

Installation of an updated camera for high quality image and creation of go-to camera presets for each style of event held within the multi-purpose space.

Cleanup of existing AV rack wiring and equipment to ensure an efficient workspace and future adaptability.

Group training and demonstration sessions with key staff members and community members to ensure a smooth transition into upcoming events.
